NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue- Awareness & Operations

NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations is a specialist course for Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services personnel. It covers the rope rescue skills required to access and evacuate casualties from most high angle locations.

Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations is designed to teach students the theories and knowledge of rope rescue to the NFPA 1006 standard.

It includes classroom and practical field exercises. Students advance from over the bank rescues to progressively more difficult vertical scenarios.

Students are trained in pre-planning and size up of rope rescue operations: knots, hitches and anchor systems; belay operations; ascending and descending; raising and lowering systems; and patient packaging and litter tending.

Special emphasis is placed o­n safety considerations for rescuers, victims and bystanders.

Certification

NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations - IFSAC/ Proboard

 

An application for a NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue course at ESA must include the following:

NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations - IFSAC/ Proboard/ ESA Certificate

  • Proof of age (minimum 18 years)
  • Statement that student is in good physical condition.
  • Minimum Medical Requirement- Current Standard First Aid
  • Current CPR Level C

Application

To apply for the Rope Rescue Course at ESA, you must use the ESA application package. Click on Download Application near the top of this page.

It is the responsibility of an applicant to ensure an application submitted to ESA is complete and meets all prerequisites. Acceptance will be confirmed upon receipt of a complete application and full payment of fees.

ESA 2026 Fees for NFPA 1006 - Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations

Fees for NFPA 1006: Rope Rescue- IFSAC/ Proboard

  • Administration Fee (non-refundable):   $125.00
  • Course Materials:   $500.00
  • Tuition Fees:   $1,475.00
  • Total Fees (including GST):  $2,100.00

Total fees are due with an application.

ESA fees are subject to review and will be updated by October 1 of each calendar year.

Class size is limited to 14 students. The first 14 applicants with complete applications and paid fees will be accepted.

Payment of Fees:  All course fees are payable to Emergency Services Academy Ltd.  Payments may be made by cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Debit Card.  Cash payments must be for the correct amount as ESA does not keep any cash onsite.

ESA Refund Policy for Rope Rescue

  • The Administration Fee is non-refundable.
  • All fees are non-refundable as of the Application Deadline.

International Students:  ESA is not able to accept international students at this time.

  • Self Rescue Techniques
  • Mechanical Advantage Lifting Techniques
  • Stretcher Lifting and Lowering Techniques

The course consists of lectures for the first 2 days and practical training starting on the second and continuing through to the end of the course. Skills competency tracking is part of each practical training session.

Students must attend the full six days of classes.
